From Credit Card Debt to Homeowner
Sharon - Toronto Ontario Region
Sharon is a teacher in her early 40s and the single mother of two boys. Due to the expense of running a household on a young teacher's income, Sharon ran into credit card problems. She wasn't making frivolous purchases, but used the cards to make ends meet.
Because Sharon did not have any significant investments and had racked up a significant amount of debt, there was little choice but to declare bankruptcy. For a year and a half, Sharon was not able to save for her sons' education - a hard blow for someone so devoted to education. We eventually managed to procure her a low-limit credit card, rehabilitate her credit, and start a savings plan.
Sharon's boys got older and found part time jobs to supplement their mother's income and the whole family adheres to the Paladin budget. A few weeks ago, Sharon bought her first home utilizing the money she had invested and earned from an investment fund. Sharon continues to save money and is well on her way to financial well being.
